The staff are friendly, and the lounge has refreshments and snacks available all day. The location is great, just a short walk from the beach and the flower clock. But this old, run-down hotel badly needs a complete renovation. The rooms and furniture are worn, and the bathroom is about as basic as it gets. The owners need to decide whether to run a hotel or keep a museum, because trying to do both is a bad idea. I wouldn't recommend it.

The 24/7 cafeteria is the best part, and breakfast is good, too. The rooms are very old and have a dusty smell, so they aren't suitable for people with allergies. The whole hotel experience was bizarre.

The mattress wasn't very comfortable, and it took a while for the shower water to get hot. Aside from that, it was lovely, like a fairy tale house. Hotel Monaldi is right downtown in Viña del Mar, with charming decor and old furniture and antiques throughout. It's unusual to find a place that has kept so many of these things, and it was fun to explore and see what else turned up. Prices are convenient, and breakfast is included each morning until 10 am. Banks, ATMs, bars, restaurants, drugstores, and supermarkets are only steps away. There's parking, but you can also walk to the beach, casino, or mall. To visit Valparaiso, local transport costs less than a dollar and stops right across the street.
