Newtown Palace Hotel

The hotel is in a nice spot, with things around town easy to find, and I was generally satisfied. It was neat and fine overall. There are more cabarets outside now, though, and some rooms can get noisy. Choose your room carefully if noise bothers you, or if you want to go out nearby at night. On this visit I also found mosquitoes in my room, unlike my last stay. Maybe it’s seasonal, but keep that in mind. I’d recommend it if you need somewhere to sleep in Garoua.

We had confirmed a booking for two rooms, including by email and phone, but when my family and I arrived they said there was nothing available. We were left without anywhere to go. It seems this has happened to others too: another corporate client had booked for more than a month and got the same response. Right in front of us, they gave the rooms to a VIP for just one night. It looks like a decent place, but I found them very dishonest about bookings. Unbelievable.

Neatness, decent standards, and good service are what draw people here. It’s a lively place to stay in the heart of Garoua, surrounded by nightlife. Garoua is the best city in Northern Cameroon.

This budget hotel is less than a year old and, with Benoue Hotel under renovation, it’s the best accommodation I’ve found in Garoua right now. The service is appreciable. There’s a restaurant and bar open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The rooms are neat, though you might occasionally spot ants or a rat.
