Four Points by Sheraton (Beijing Branch)

We had plenty to choose from at breakfast, and it was delicious. The room was spacious, with a large bed and a quilt that was just the right weight. Coffee and tea were provided, the air conditioning was quiet, and the bathroom was roomy and clean. The elevators were fast, and sound from the hallway didn't get into the room. We could feel some vibration when children ran around in the room above, but customer service sorted it out right away. For eating and shopping, the location is especially convenient, with a newly built subway station right next door and the largest mall in western Beijing about a 10-minute walk away. There are lots of good restaurants there. Other five-star hotels are nearby too, but this is the best choice if convenient access to food and shops is what you need.

The room service team were really friendly, but I didn't feel welcome at the front desk. The staff there always seemed in a rush to finish and move guests along. The lounge was still closed because of “Covid” in May 2023. I hadn't realized Four Points didn't include complimentary breakfast. If I had, I'd have booked the Aloft next door for much less. I was traveling around China for 20 more days that month, moving between Marriott and Hilton hotels, and this one had the worst front desk experience of them all. I won't stay here again on my next trip to Beijing.

The rooms were clean, nice, and had enough amenities, but the hotel felt worn and could use refurbishment. At the entrance, there was nobody to help guests, and the front desk staff spoke very little English. Breakfast is probably worth getting, especially in peak season: there was lots of choice and the fruit juices were fresh. This wasn't one of the best SPG properties I've stayed at.

I couldn't get Skype to connect over the hotel WiFi, and spent an important meeting repeatedly dropping in and out while fighting with the network. The room also had poor air circulation, and we weren't allowed to open the window. Reception said the windows were thin and could fall on windy days, so they kept them locked. There was a strong smell from the toilet too. I couldn't be more disappointed. Stay away.
