My wife and I prepaid 328 RMB on Expedia for a standard room at the Beijing Judges' Home Hotel for the night of June 15, 2015. Breakfast wasn’t included. When we arrived around 6 PM, the receptionist told us the room had no window and asked whether that was okay. We were surprised and asked about rooms with windows. They said the price only covered a windowless room. We accepted that since there was air conditioning, but then staff said it only ran until 11 PM. We couldn’t see how a room with no window and no air conditioning overnight could be comfortable, especially at a supposed 4-star hotel in Beijing. With no other option, we asked for a room with a window and were told those cost around 800 yuan. We were angry and felt cheated. When we asked for a refund, the hotel told us to contact Expedia and said it wasn’t their responsibility. In the end, we left to find another hotel. The hotel is near Beijing Railway Station, and its location is convenient. But advertising low prices online and only disclosing the room conditions after guests arrive is baffling. We couldn’t find any mention of no windows or nighttime air conditioning limits on Expedia or other booking sites. We’ve blacklisted the Beijing Judge's House Hotel and are posting this to warn other travelers. This experience left us frustrated, facing unexpected costs, and took the enjoyment out of our trip.
