The buffet was better than average, with fried rice, spring rolls, stir-fried dishes, Chinese pastries, pudding desserts and congee. There was also a noodle soup station where you could build a bowl with pork bone broth and vegetable toppings, plus freshly fried eggs. Getting around inside was another matter, the layout had odd twists and turns and I spent time figuring it out. The decor was interesting, and the elevators seemed small by North American standards, though I don't know if that's common in China. Communication was tough if you don't speak Mandarin, even Cantonese didn't help much. Google Translate was a big help. The washroom is beside the bed behind a clear glass wall. Blinds block the direct view, but someone by the bed could lift them and see a person showering. I also had mosquitoes in my room despite the windows being shut. One buzzed by my ear in the middle of the night, loud even through earplugs, and I woke with about 6-8 bites. Unbelievable...

The hotel was great, although the statues in the hallways could feel strange or even a little scary, and the perfume in those halls was overdone. It's easy to get lost inside. A taxi from the airport cost 217 RMB (US$31.315). For food, head left from the main entrance to the end of the block, turn left again and keep walking until you see the McDonald across the street. I recommend the corner shop opposite it on the right, the bread and other things are good. It's open 24 hours, so even if you're hungry around 4:50 a.m. or in a hurry, you can grab breakfast, lunch or dinner there.

The hallway and room were nicely decorated, and breakfast was very good. Staff were friendly, with a couple of decent restaurants nearby. The room was starting to look worn, especially the carpet. It's a 20-minute walk to subway line 9, and getting to the city center takes about 50 minutes.

The buffet was mediocre, and I disliked the confusing layout. I spent a good 15 minutes wandering around to find my room. Staff were friendly and helpful when they could be. I also didn't like having to pay for the pool and gym, and the gym cost 50 RMB and was very small.

It's an okay hotel if you're watching your budget. The bathroom design is poor, though, and leaves water pooling on the floor. I'd rather spend more and upgrade to a better place.
