Cityjoin Hotel

We paid $40/night for two nights, and the hotel felt like a strong deal at that price. The check-in desk is on the 9th floor, and the hotel covers floors 9 and 10. The location puts you between two metro stations, right in the middle of the city's nightlife. Old streets are nearby, and sights and shopping, including Beijing Road, the train station and the herb market, are a short walk or an inexpensive metro or taxi ride away. China Merchants Bank is close by and gave excellent dollar exchange rates. The room looked out over the old city and was clean, with fresh linens and what you'd expect from a 3-star hotel. It also had fabric softener, wine glasses 🙂 and a tea ceremony set. The hallways and room have interesting decor, and the shared area has a coffee machine, tea and cookies. The floors are tile and parquet, or something that looks like parquet, rather than the carpet you see almost everywhere in China. Staff were friendly and spoke good English. A few things could be better: the bed was a bit soft, and the air conditioning was awkward to get going. It seemed to work only at 16-18 degrees Celsius, while the room was set to 23 degrees Celsius. There's no hand shower, toilet brush or safe. I also think there may be mold under the wallpaper, though I'm not certain. I recommend the hotel.
