Xuelang Lake and Chuangye Park are right beside the hotel, making for a peaceful place to walk, jog, or relax. It's also just a short walk to a Muslim restaurant, which was very convenient. I emailed before arriving to ask about halal food, and the restaurant manager was responsive and helpful with the information. There were lots of vegetarian options as well. Breakfast was acceptable, with the items clearly labeled, which helped with dietary preferences. The receptionist was welcoming and made check-in easy. My room was spacious, comfortable, and had plenty of amenities. I had a very pleasant stay and would recommend it, especially to Muslim travelers.

There aren't many shops near the hotel, and the employees could be more enthusiastic and approachable. Still, the two-night stay went smoothly: check-in was quick, the room was clean, everything worked, and the water pressure was good. Breakfast was fine, and the food tasted decent.

The room was okay, but the breakfast is expensive. They charge another ¥100 if you don't tell the front desk the night before that you're going to breakfast, which is insane. Getting to the Canton Fair takes a long time. The bus they provide takes about 1:30hr each way, so expect to spend over three hours on it on every day you attend. I don't recommend it.

The staff were the biggest plus, always helpful and welcoming. I stayed for a week during the Canton fair, and the room was very big, clean, and had everything I needed. Breakfast was huge, with a wide variety of local and international food. The pool, though, is a bit small if you're swimming laps. There was a strange smell in the room that took a while to get used to. The air conditioning didn't really follow the thermostat: sometimes it made the room freezing, other times it only cooled the air a little. A shuttle to the canton fair runs a few times a day and takes around 45 minutes. There's not much around the hotel, with no shopping areas or restaurants, and it's quite far from the city centre. At night, taxis didn't want to take us there because they knew they'd have to return to the city centre empty. It's suited to business more than couples or families. Even with those downsides, I'd consider coming back to Double Tree, though next time I'd prefer somewhere better located.
