There’s a local market atmosphere around the hotel, which felt like a bit of an adventure. For the Canton fair, the staff ran a free shuttle between the hotel and exhibition, twice daily: out at 8:00 and 9:00, back at 17:00 and 18:00. The venue isn’t very far away.

The place has been renovated and now goes by Paco DT Hotel, and it’s much nicer. Staff are pleasant, though they speak little English. Rates are around $50 a night. The surrounding area is still industrial and dirty.

I stayed for eight nights and came away with only good impressions. It’s right downtown, about 3 km from the TV tower, with a huge park close by for evening walks. Taxis to any market are cheap. The hotel is cozy and clean, and the food is delicious. I’d recommend it.
