I’ve been backpacking for 17 years and have always managed to adapt, but I’ve never been treated this badly. This hostel is one to avoid, especially because of the man we found at reception. My girlfriend and I booked a Longji rice terraces excursion through him. He gave us a completely wrong departure time, so we had to rush breakfast. He also said the driver would wait until our excursion was over before heading back, but the driver gave us only 2 hours. Visiting the terraces was one of the main reasons I returned to China, and we saw almost nothing. The next day, the breakfast included in our reservation wasn’t provided. The man disappeared for the whole day and didn’t answer emails. I won’t even list all the other bad things about the place. We booked our next excursion through another hostel. Lakeside hostel in Guilin is the worst place to stay.

The rooms are big, but mine was dirty and the wifi didn’t work. They didn’t clean the room or change the towels. I won’t go back.

The location was great, about a 10-minute walk at most from Guilin HSR station, and easy to find along the Main Road. The staff were extra friendly and sat down with us to go over our itinerary and explain local information. They also book tour buses to LONGGI RICE TERRACES at a worthwhile price. Clean bedsheets, awesome views, and flexible check-out made this my best hostel experience.

The catfish was actually very tasty, and the place is fine for sleeping and eating. The rest was disappointing. Our bathroom was quite dirty, and the room's air conditioning leaked. We asked them to look at it while we went out for a walk, but they didn't. They brought us a basin for the water, saying there were no other rooms available. Breakfast was identical for everyone, just toast, and getting anything else might mean asking for coffee. The rental mountain bikes were rusty and hadn't been maintained.
