Rock & Wood Cozy House

The location was a lovely surprise. We could walk to the south side of West Lake (West Lake), which we liked even more than the main Xihu area. It was quiet and scenic, and great for photos in the morning or at sunset without the crowds. The residential neighbourhood felt safe and peaceful, with a small convenience store close by, and getting a Didi from the doorstep was easy. Vivian was what made the stay so special. She helped with our luggage, suggested walking routes, and guided us through things we wouldn’t have known how to handle ourselves. After we got stranded following a makers market and couldn’t get a Didi, she suggested waiting out the traffic at a nearby mall, which became a fun detour. She also checked boat schedules for us so we wouldn’t make needless trips on bad-weather days. There were thoughtful touches throughout. Vivian introduced us to local food, snacks, and the wet market scene. Some evenings we returned to handmade treats, including breakfast loaves, homemade nougat, light suppers, and welcome tea snacks. Breakfast was freshly prepared each morning, with both western and local dishes, and it felt like being welcomed into a family home. We were five adults travelling as a family, and this was one of our best homestay experiences. The rooms were clean and comfortable, a nice place to come back to after long days out. We’d absolutely return and recommend it to anyone visiting Hangzhou. It made the trip feel warm, meaningful, and memorable.

What stayed with me most from our three days was Vivian’s hospitality. Her warmth, care with the details, and heartfelt recommendations made the trip unforgettable. She shared hidden gems around Hangzhou and made sure we had what we needed. Thanks to her kindness and enthusiasm, we felt connected to the city, not just like visitors. The homestay itself was a peaceful place to unwind, with a blend of rustic charm and modern comfort. Its thoughtful design and appreciation for nature and local culture made us feel at home as soon as we arrived.

Sally was incredibly welcoming, helpful, and easygoing. The place was spotless and tidy, with great style. She made the snacks, breakfast, and drinks fresh in her kitchen, and they were all delicious. Don’t bother looking elsewhere.
