The room's city view is nice, and having a gym is a definite plus. The hotel is a bit dated and the room quite small, so keep that in mind. It's not very close to the MTR station, which can be a little inconvenient when walking with luggage. An acceptable option if you manage expectations and care more about the views and basic facilities than space or modern design.

The area is right between wanchai and Causeway Bay, a bit out of the way, but interesting enough to make the long walks worthwhile. All the staff I met during my 10-night stay were fantastic. The housekeeping staff member had a lovely attitude, but probably didn't bother vacuuming. Every part of the room, top to bottom, was filthy. I wiped even easy to reach surfaces like the bedside table and writing table with a wet tissue, and it turned black. Through no fault of the hotel, I was also woken many times one unfortunate night when the guests in the conjoined room next door smoked marijuana. It made me cough my lungs out, and I couldn't get rid of that stench.

The bathroom flooded completely while we were showering that night. The room looked newly renovated, though it was just okay, but the flooding was unacceptable. We called housekeeping at 1AM. They brought a water pump, but it didn't fix anything, and we still couldn't shower. At around 3 a.m., Jerry told us the only option was to change rooms, by which point my friend and I were exhausted. Staff communication in English was very poor and made it more frustrating. I asked Jerry for compensation, maybe breakfast or a partial refund. He said the only thing he could offer was one cup of coffee per person in the morning. Worse, he kept insisting it WAS OUR FAULT for not wanting to move rooms, and didn't give a sincere apology. This happened on the first day of 2026 and was extremely disappointing. There were problems right at check-in too: staff gave us a key marked with the wrong room number, 102 instead of the correct 101. Very poor experience, and I wouldn't recommend staying here. If you can't speak Cantonese, no.... :(

I stayed a week in Hong Kong at this great value place. It's clean and safe, with friendly staff and decent sized rooms. The cleaning staff were especially friendly and always offered help. It's conveniently located near plenty of shopping and restaurants. My only issue was the WiFi kept going in and out, making it very hard to get work done.

Charterhouse had its moments, but sadly they seem long gone. I stayed in a Signature suite for a little under a week. This was my third visit, and possibly my last. It's past its prime, everything feels dated and is falling apart, with no maintenance or effort to renovate for current expectations. The linens are old, carpets damp, wallpaper peeling, and grime and mould building up everywhere. My S suite room had no sunlight. The toilet often smelled bad unless I kept the lid down, and didn't flush well. Rooms often smell of cigarette smoke, which I suspect comes from guests breaking the smoking rules while the hotel turns a blind eye. The location has so much potential, within walking distance of most of Wan Chai and beside Bowrington wet market and Times Square. Instead, the hotel feels faded and tired, like the staff attitude. Housekeepers grumble under their breath if you ask for something. Front desks, which don't actually have a desk, don't smile and offer little flexibility. There's no proper place to get into or out of a cab, just you, your luggage, and the busy roads of wan chai.
