Dorsett Mongkok, Hong Kong

The people made the stay. Jimmy from concierge carried our luggage in the rain when we checked in, and the breakfast team were wonderful with my kids, greeting them warmly and surprising them with little treats every morning. Five stars for service. The location was convenient for the MTR and a short walk from Mong Kok’s busy streets, though it’s not right in the middle of the action. The hotel could use a more thorough clean and some upgrades; the photos looked better than it did in person. Even so, we had a great experience.

The lobby had detox water when we arrived, a lovely thing to have after a flight, though later it wasn’t available when we wanted some, probably because it was too late. It would be nice to have it in the room or all day in the lobby. I slept really well on the comfortable bed. The pillow was a matter of taste, and I’d have preferred a firmer one. We also liked the fragrant shampoo, conditioner, and shower products, which didn’t dry out our skin. There’s a small, cozy lounge for ironing and washing and drying clothes. We saw the well-equipped gym but didn’t get time to try it. I checked in last Thursday and realized I’d booked this same hotel back in 2017, so the familiar surroundings were a nice surprise. This time my friend made the booking. Our room on the 26th floor had a good view, and the hotel was clean. Staff were good throughout, especially the helpful concierge. Big thanks to Thomas and Jimmy for arranging comfortable, reliable transport to the airport.

The room was very small, but since we spent most of the day exploring and only came back to sleep, it didn’t bother us much. The shower was excellent, with reliably hot water. There are local restaurants nearby, and the McDonald’s across the street makes surprisingly good coffee in real cups. The MTR is about a ten-minute walk; several buses also stop right outside. We stayed nine nights at the Dorsett Mongkok Hotel and really enjoyed it. Staff were friendly, attentive, and quick to help. Our room felt cold the first night, so they brought us a heater straight away, and we stayed comfortable after that. Breakfast was included and had a good range, with some choices changing each day. Only on our final day did we learn that the first-floor laundry/lounge offers complimentary red, white, and sparkling wine from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. A lovely extra, though we wish we’d known sooner. A very good place to stay in Hong Kong.

The buffet breakfast was incredibly tasty, and our room on the 27th floor had a fabulous view. My husband and I spent about eight nights here on vacation and had the best time. There’s a McD right opposite, plenty of local places to eat, and a couple of 7-elevens nearby. It’s also close to MTR and bus stations. The hospitality was top notch. We hope to stay with you again, in Hong Kong or elsewhere. Thanks for a lovely visit.
