Hostel Venus

Clean and cheap, though things were a bit unsettled during my stay. The AC was somewhat noisy, and the TV was unplugged and in Chinese. On the plus side, there was a hair dryer and the Wi-Fi was very good. The WC door next door was noisy too. The cleaning woman also worked reception from about 11 to 13. Hot and cold mineral water was available. 150HK seemed about right.

UPDATE 3/24/2019: good news, they tried to move me to yet another room, the third time in three days. The only real plus is the convenient spot for shopping, the metro, and food. The room itself was clean and had a safe and AC, but it was about 8X8 sq ft including the bathroom tucked into one corner. The toilet, shower, and bathroom were all in that single corner space. There was a small TV, which I didn’t care about. I took a photo of the room, with each tile about a foot. Be prepared to wait up to 10 minutes for an elevator to the 12th floor. Check-in was the worst I’ve had anywhere. I arrived on check-in day, gave my name, and signed in, then went to spend the day with my Aunt, who lives in HK. I stayed over at her place that night. When I came back at 2pm the next day for my assigned room key, they had given my room away because I hadn’t stayed there that night. I was left outside with a squeaky intercom I could barely understand. Try standing in front of it and see if you can make out what you’re saying. I was standing there with a bursting bladder before they finally buzzed me in. After I spoke to the front desk, they put me in a room in another building, Hotel Skycity, part of a chain that starts with 'Hotel'. Later they said I’d be there for now while they found me another spot tomorrow. Whaaaat? They’re obviously overbooking like crazy and leaving guests in the lurch. Absolutely horrible practice. The convenient location is why this gets one star, though really, you can’t give zero.

The room was just okay, nothing special, and I didn’t really like the place. The worst part was the lift. Waiting five to ten minutes just to get one was frustrating.

The building itself didn’t feel comfortable, though the small room could work if you’re on a tight budget.
