Ramada by Wyndham Hong Kong Grand View

The one good thing was the sea view from the highest floor. The hotel lives up to the Grand View name from that side, though if you’re on the other side, all you see is the chinese palengke. Everything else was awful. We were put on the 28th floor, where someone kept smoking in a room despite the no-smoking signs, and staff did nothing. The gym was tiny and had just one 15 and one 12 lb dumbell, and when I asked about the missing weights, a staff member only shrugged. The staff were rude and unhelpful. Towels were stained and smelled disgusting, the bathroom soap seemed like watered-down hand wash, and the beds were rock hard. The hotel is in a bad area. I’d recommend the hotel right beside it, which looked ten times better even from the outside.

The hotel is in an older building, but our room and the facilities were well maintained, and the staff’s warm hospitality made up for the minor quirks. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and housekeeping came daily to keep it tidy. Breakfast had a fair selection of dishes. Getting around was very easy, with a bus station, MTR, tram, and ferry terminal nearby, making it simple to reach Kowloon. Victoria Harbour is close by too, with a lovely waterfront for a daily jog and beautiful harbour views. We stayed at the Ramada Grand View Hotel in North Point during the New Year and had a good experience. It seems like a great choice for a longer stay, especially in peak season.

The location worked well for getting around Hong Kong island by subway or tram, and our two-bedroom suite was a good deal. It’s a handy setup if you have older kids who want their own space. The rooms are very dated, though: old, scruffy furniture, peeling wallpaper, carpet that looks at least 20 years old, and a shower drain that was a bit clogged.

For someone like me who enjoys wandering around traditional markets, the location on Chun Yeung street Wet Market in North Point was perfect. I stayed 3 nights and really enjoyed the atmosphere, with the tram running along the street and fruit and souvenirs easy to find. There were Indonesian shops nearby too, so as an Indonesian it was easy to find food. Our family room on the 26th floor had two bedrooms and suited our stay well. At the price offered on agoda, I thought it was worth it. Some guests might complain about the smell, but with the wet market right there, it’s expected. It didn’t bother us.
