The clean room and comfortable bed were positives, and the views were excellent. The location was a bit outside the centre, but being by a busy bus stop made it easy to ride into town. Still, I'm not happy with this stay. Check-in felt professional but curt, and a smile or warm welcome would've been nice. The room was tiny, though I know that's common in HK. For around 174 Euros for two nights, I thought it was ridiculous to get no complimentary water or basic toiletries, a first for me. When we asked, they gave us what sounded like a made-up explanation about local regulations. I've stayed in HK before and never heard that. The deposit request was annoying, too. It means less money to spend in HK, and the top hotels don't do it. For the price, the hotel was overpriced, especially given that it's so far out of the city and offers no complimentary extras.

The staff spoke very good English, and when I had an issue with the toilet, someone came up right away to check it. The room was clean and the price was good. I stayed by myself for a week and had a good experience. It's away from tourist spots, though there are several bus stops nearby. I like riding buses since they're cheap and less crowded, but I can see this location putting some people off. The Wi-Fi was enough for streaming 1080p YouTube, but uploads took a long time. The room was much smaller than the pictures suggest. Alone, I only used it to sleep, but I wouldn't stay there with three or more people. I couldn't control the AC; I prefer a particular temperature, but it got chilly at night and didn't bother me. The USB A 5 watt charger topped up my phone and battery bank overnight. You'll need an outlet adapter if you're Canadian and want to charge a laptop or something. The walls are thin, and doors slamming and families yelling across the hall at night were easy to hear. Around 7-8 pm the two elevators get busy, so expect to wait. Once, while I was showering, room service tried to enter. I hadn't put up the do not disturb sign, but I don't know whether they'd have come in if I hadn't been there.

I've been a long-stay guest at South Nest for almost a year. It has a nice setup for extended stays, with a kitchen and pantry. The hotel also runs a calendar of workshops, films, and other activities. Tim Tim is really friendly and does a great job organizing them. It's a little far from the rest of Hong Kong island, but well connected.

The room had a great view, and it was clean and spacious compared with other Hong Kong hotels like mini central… The staff were really friendly, and the price was good. They also run a range of free workshops and activities.

Getting my one-night refund turned into a drawn-out mess. I followed Expedia’s cancellation and change instructions and contacted South Nest Hotel (Aberdeen, Hong Kong) more than three weeks before Nov 21, the final date for full cancellations or changes. I have proof of the conversation and say I met all the requirements, but after days of back-and-forth, South Nest said no staff member had picked up my message. Expedia tried to help, but said the final decision was the hotel’s. South Nest refused to refund me, even though I had proof supporting my request. Being caught between the two companies over this was completely unacceptable. South Nest is also not conveniently located and isn’t within walking distance of the MTR, Hong Kong’s main transport system. There are plenty of competitively priced hotels in Hong Kong, so travelers may want to think twice about staying there. Good luck.
