Hong Kong Hostel

The location is very good and the price is low, but the room in the second building was mediocre. The carpet smelled damp, and I doubt it had ever been vacuumed. The bathroom wasn’t very clean either. If you just need a basic, cheap place to sleep in the city center and aren’t fussy, Hong Kong in might work for you. For comfort, I’d look elsewhere.

The staff were really nice, and the internet was faster in the second building, which was a bit better. But the rooms are really dirty, so I’d only recommend staying for one day. At first they put me in a room that wasn’t arranged properly. I helped the staff change the sheets because I just wanted to sleep. There were instructions down near the floor, and it felt like they were inside the room. They also hadn’t told me about the renovations. After I asked, they moved me to the second building.

The location is good and it’s fairly cheap for Hong Kong. There’s also a communal fridge, which was handy for the milk and beer we bought at the nearby supermarket. Just don’t expect much. Our room had a huge wet patch on the carpet that smelled bad, and both the room and hallway had a mothball smell. The rooms are in a separate building from reception. My partner couldn’t bear the odor, though I mostly managed to ignore it, apart from in the hallway.

For the price, this was a bargain in Causeway Bay. We stayed four nights with family, including a toddler. The room was a little small but clean, with no sign of cockroaches. It was quiet, the air-conditioning worked well, and the showers were hot. The receptionist was helpful on our first day, and you can ask for tips on tourist attractions. The location on Patterson St is very convenient, close to the MTR and a taxi stand. There’s a supermarket across the road that’s open 24 hours, and lots of cafés and restaurants nearby. Ocean Park is about $65 by taxi, and Disneyland is $30 by MTR. An Octopus card makes getting around and paying in shops easier.
