the Figo

We spent nearly a month at The Figo, and it felt like home. The location made getting around Hong Kong easy, and the hospitality stayed warm throughout. Our young son especially loved happy hour, the board games and extra treats made him feel welcome, while the grown-ups enjoyed it too. Thanks to manager Ms Apple for kindly arranging a late checkout for our late evening flight. That little gesture summed up how thoughtful and flexible the stay felt. We’d happily return and recommend The Figo for a comfortable, friendly, well located stay in Hong Kong.

The design is beautiful, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the rooms come with great amenities. It’s expensive, though in line with similar places in Hong Kong. The neighborhood is quiet and nice, if a bit out of the way, and you can easily walk to the mid-levels area.

Love the location, the design of the lobby and the rooms, the cleanliness of the hotel, and the politeness of the staff. The view is great too. However, there is one issue that I would give this place a 4.5/5 stars is due to the maintenance of the lift. Without failing, there would always be a lift maintenance at 10:30am everyday. This has causes a lot of inconvenience to the guests and the cleaning crews. The wait for remaining lift will take 5 mins or more as the lift is tiny and everyone fought to use the lift. Another thing to take note for arriving guests is to exit from Sai Ying Pun's Exit A2. Don't trust Google Map by alighting from Sheung Wan as it is a terrible choice. It is an uphill walk with multiple busy roads that you have to cross from Sheung Wan station.

For the price, this is a great hotel. Our beds were firm and there were nice pillow options. The rooms are small, but they kindly upgraded us to a lovely suite on the top, 21st floor. We booked directly and stayed four nights. Happy hour was generous, with beer, wine, basic spirits and mixers, juice, soft drinks, and a few snacks. The little outdoor area on the 4th floor was nice too. There were some drawbacks. One elevator was out of service the whole time, and because offices are in the building too, the wait could be long. The location was decent, though restaurants in Wan Chai or central were better; both are easy enough to reach on foot or by tram. The gym opened late, at 7:30am, and was basic: a dual-pulley cable machine, one adjustable bench, dumbbells up to 10kg, a bike, and a treadmill. There was also an infrared sauna and a small cold plunge.
