The Perkin Hotel

It’s in a strategic spot in a very busy part of TST. Getting there by taxi is a little difficult because you have to walk up from the main road. I stayed over New Year and could hear some noise from the crowds outside, with several bars downstairs.

Even from the seventh floor, we could hear the bars downstairs and their late-night buzz so clearly that getting a decent night’s sleep was almost impossible. The rooms were small, though that’s understandable in Hong Kong, and the entrance is tucked down a narrow alley behind Mira Place. You have to pass a whole row of bars to reach it, which felt awkward and inconvenient with luggage. Perkin Hotel doesn’t live up to its claimed four-star rating, and I wouldn’t choose it for a quiet, comfortable stay or good value.

We had a great time at The Perkin. The room had plenty of space, and I loved the shower. The full-size desk and useful ironing board were nice extras. It’s also only a few minutes on foot from the MTR, in a really good location. I’d happily stay again.

That shower had serious pressure, like being blasted by a power washer. We were on an upper floor and didn’t hear much, though my mom was on the 6th floor AC and said the bars below were noisy. The hotel is a bit tricky to locate, but I found a helpful review with directions, took a screenshot of it, and had no trouble. You go up a little ramp and some steps, pass the bars, and find reception on the fifth floor. The bar staff kept trying to get us to eat or drink there, but a polite no was enough to keep going. By reception there are a couple of tables, a filtered water dispenser, coffee, soda, and packaged muffins. The water was handy for bottles, and my husband liked grabbing coffee before we headed out. The subway is about a 5-7 minute walk away. It was fine, though there aren’t many extras like a pool, gym, or outdoor lounge.
