We’re here now, and the location is amazing. The renovation is much better than before, when it was named crown plaza. Check-in customer service was superb, and the concierge were excellent whenever we called to ask about laundry or shuttle service. The room service was mixed: the halibut portion definitely won’t suit someone with a big appetite, the baked pork chop was good, and the tiramisu was okay. It’s just my husband and me this trip, but next time in hk we’ll bring the kids. I’m sure they’ll love the kids room with its bunk and slide.
Cathay, the event sales person for our wedding, was probably the most disgusting event sales person I’ve ever met. Her unwillingness and passive-aggressive manner left my partner and me extremely upset and uncomfortable. Don’t expect quality service from her.
The best parts of our 9-night stay were the location, right beside Tseung Kwan O MTR and linked to Popcorn Mall, and our clean, quiet, spacious Sunset View room. The neighbourhood is pleasant for walking, housekeeping staff were friendly and flexible about timing, and they brought firm pillows and a coffee maker when we asked. There’s also a quiet, well-equipped gym and a fantastic pastry shop. There was no in-house restaurant during our visit. The room got warm in the afternoons, and the air-conditioning was weak and noisy enough to wake us several times overnight. After we switched rooms, the shower pressure still wasn’t strong. Housekeeping also missed amenity checks, so we often had to ask for refills. Before this stay, we’d booked a birthday staycation at the newly rebranded Royal Garden Hotel Kowloon East, formerly Crowne Plaza Kowloon East. We used to return for long stays because we valued the warm, professional service under IHG, even though the rooms were dated. This time, when we asked for extra water and a Nespresso machine, as Crowne Plaza had provided for us as long-stay guests, we got a curt refusal without courtesy or hospitality. The condescending tone was disappointing even before we arrived, especially for a birthday stay. We’re reconsidering whether to go ahead with our reservation. If you’re returning because of your Crowne Plaza experiences, be aware that the branding and prices seem to have gone up, while service has noticeably declined. You’ll pay more and get a lot less. I hope the hotel improves its communication and hospitality and reaches the standard of a true 5-star hotel.
Really glad we found a good hotel in HK. The room even had a slide, and with no carpet it smelled fresher than most HK hotels. Staff were lovely, especially the welcoming team and luggage service. They even followed me when my hands were full of shopping and helped me press the lift button. There are two huge shopping malls downstairs with kids' shops, clothes, food and pretty much everything we needed. The MTR is about a minute away. The pool looked amazing, though it was a bit cool for swimming in spring. Room service pizza was great. We’ll book again next time.
In January 2026, the hotel was officially renamed East Kowloon Royal Garden Hotel, effective January 1, 2026. It is a sister hotel to the Tsim Sha Tsui Royal Garden Hotel. The former Chinese restaurant, Zi Yue Xuan, closed on December 31, 2025.
