The Salisbury - YMCA of Hong Kong

The staff made our five-night stay at The Salisbury YMCA feel special. They were warm and welcoming, and especially kind to my little baby girl. Those small gestures meant a lot to us as parents and made us feel at home. Our room was spotless when we arrived and stayed beautifully clean throughout. It was spacious by Hong Kong hotel standards, and the bed and comforter were cozy and just right for the local weather. We slept well after days out exploring. Best of all was the spectacular Victoria Harbour view. Waking up to the skyline and watching the lights at night from our window was breathtaking. With the spacious rooms and its location right on the harbor, it made a wonderful base for our Hong Kong trip. We’ll definitely return.

The room was clean and spacious, with accurate temperature control, strong water pressure and hot water that came almost instantly. It was also fairly quiet at night despite the busy roads. The TV was compact, but that wasn’t an issue. The standout extra was the personal water filter and dispenser in the room. For the price, it’s hard to find fault. The location worked extremely well for my trip, with several MTR entrances and bus stops nearby, friendly eateries, fancy malls and an easy, breezy walk to the ferry pier. Note that personal care items like toothbrushes aren’t provided for environmental reasons, but you can buy them at reception. I strongly recommend this hotel.

I enjoyed my stay in this solid property, with its unbeatable location and lovely staff. I booked a suite for five nights and got a top-floor room with genuinely stunning views of the harbor, skyline and a slice of downtown. Check-in set a great tone. The woman at reception was warm and funny, which was just what I needed after a long travel day. There was one issue: a low rumble by the living-room windows that I couldn’t tolerate because of my ear sensitivity. Most people probably wouldn’t notice it. Maintenance confirmed it right away and offered another room. I accepted, then called back less than five minutes later to return to the original room. The 8th floor wasn’t a better situation, and the bellman handled my indecision with complete grace. The bedroom was perfectly quiet, and I could manage the living room in short spells away from the windows, so I made it work and genuinely enjoyed the stay. A maintenance note: I’d partly booked for the bathtub, but rust around the drain in both rooms put me off using it. That’s a small miss for a suite-level stay. An unexpected bonus was getting a front-row view of traditional bamboo scaffolding going up on the neighboring building. It was fascinating to see up close if you’ve never seen it before. Take a moment to check that your room feels right before unpacking.

The location is perfect, the breakfast decent, and our partial harbour view room was a good deal. The rooms are spacious by Hong Kong standards, so you get what you pay for. They don’t make up the rooms daily. Housekeeping comes once every 3-4 days, and otherwise only collects trash. There’s no room service and no water in the rooms. Everything else was fine.
