Sheraton Grand Xishuangbanna Hotel

The service stood out most for me. The staff were polite and professional, and took care over the details. Breakfast was very good, with plenty of choices, and I liked the noodle stalls. We also ate twice at Dai Family Banquet by the gate. Prices were reasonable and the portions generous, and there are some other good restaurants near the hotel as well. It's a quiet place for a leisure break, though a bit far from the city centre. The resort has some free activities nearby and offers free shuttle buses to the airport and train station. Our room was spacious, clean and nice, with a comfortable bed. A very satisfying stay at the Sheraton Xishuangbanna.

The location is close to the airport but well outside town, about 15 minutes away depending on traffic. It works well as a destination resort, although when I visited it seemed to be occupied almost entirely by tour groups. I ate alone at Yue restaurant, which felt rather lonely as I was the only diner. The Cantonese food was quite good, though nothing exceptional. Breakfast was what you'd expect at a hotel like this, with a solid selection. You'd have to be unreasonably fussy not to find something you like. The Sheraton Grand Xishuangbanna Hotel is thoughtfully designed and well equipped with the facilities you'd expect. My room was to a high standard and looked out over the gardens and swimming pools. A few staff members spoke English and were very helpful, but English was generally spoken very little, which isn't surprising given the location.

I'm a Spire IHG member and stay at nice hotels regularly, so this one was a mistake. I came for two restful nights on a business trip, but the poor sleep spoiled the stay. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the staff were friendly, but they didn't seem concerned that the room was hot. The in-room AC wouldn't cool below 27℃ (80℉), and I woke up sweating. I called three times, then went to the front desk and insisted they call the manager before anyone came to look at it.

Nice room, and the staff were ready to help. English was a problem, but everyone had a translator on their phone.
