Camlux Hotel

My friend dropped me off today and helped unload my luggage, then parked in the hotel garage. After he drove away, a staff member called me to ask why we hadn't spoken to reception first. He was angry and said CCTV showed the car had been there for over an hour. If staff were watching, I don't understand why they didn't tell us right away that parking wasn't allowed. He said only monthly guests could park, but there was no sign saying that, and no notice of a HKD $200 penalty either. He asked whether I wanted to pay it for my friend. With no restrictions or fees posted in the garage, it seemed reasonable to think hotel guests could park there. If that wasn't the case, staff could have approached us when we arrived and explained the rule politely. We would have followed it. Instead, he spoke with what felt like unfounded authority, and the whole exchange was accusatory and unnecessarily hostile. After venting, he said he'd let it go “this time” but would penalize me next time, then abruptly hung up. I've never felt so disrespected as a hotel guest. It feels terrible staying here.

I booked four days for a business trip, and the staff woke me every day to ask when they could clean, even with Do Not Disturb on. There wasn't even a complimentary bottle of water. Also found a condom wrapper on the floor behind the curtain.

I woke up with new bites after the first night in the first room. They said they couldn't find a bug and that the bites could have come from anywhere, but when I moved rooms I immediately felt better and the itching stopped. I got bites on my hands and lots on my arms, and worrying about possible scars was stressful too. At first, one front desk person was dismissive and made me doubt myself. They only offered free laundry and other things after I asked, and none of that fixed the problem. The manager was great, but that one staff member and the whole experience made my trip horrible.

The room worked for work, but not for sightseeing. There were no restaurants nearby, the on-site restaurant closed early, and getting around meant using cabs or Uber. The room itself was spacious and the shower was great. The air conditioning, though, was a split system that couldn't be turned off and sounded like a constant wind tunnel. I could only shift the temperature from freezing to cold. It rained during both days of our stay, so I spent more time than usual in the room. The TV only had local channels I couldn't understand, so I watched Netflix on my phone. A smart TV would suit non-Mandarin speakers better. We stayed two nights on a stopover returning from Europe.
