Everest Base Camp Hostel

The room was absolutely disgusting, with a heavily stained blanket, see through towels, and such a bad mold problem that I was physically gagging. I can usually tough anything out, but this was so bad I left before finishing my stay. They refused a refund, of course. The staff weren’t friendly, and I didn’t feel safe. Do NOT stay here.

The only good thing I can say is that the woman at the front desk was helpful when we checked in late. The room was tiny, the shower leaked, there were cockroaches everywhere, and the place was dirty and hard to find. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. Pay a little more for somewhere better.

Absolutely horrible place. There was no hot water in my room, and the beds looked nothing like the pictures. I recommend staying somewhere else.

On the second of our three nights, we came back to find that our key card didn’t work. The manager told me on the phone he’d deliberately deactivated it because I hadn’t left a key deposit. That was true, I’d just arrived and didn’t have cash at check-in. He said I had to go to reception and give him cash. In that building at night, the lift queues can make that a 20 minute trip. With all our belongings in the room and a third night booked, we obviously weren’t going to steal their key card. After 15 minutes, a man showed up and reactivated the card. By then I had zero trust in the management, so I didn’t hand over $100 for the deposit. We moved to a much nicer place on the island the next morning, for $500 per night. The manager had already made a bad impression at check-in. He took my passport, spoke with other staff who suggested kicking someone else out of their room for us, then slapped my passport back on the bench and told me to come back after 7pm. I refused, and they found me a room on another floor. The man at floor 3 Block D was pleasant, but the room was tiny and very, very damp. I wish we’d checked the Google reviews before booking. The building was a very unpleasant, dirty, damp arcade. Others have called them scam artists, and this was the worst service and stay we’ve ever had. Agoda and Booking suggested an 8 star rating, which makes it seem like the owners may have posted false reviews themselves.
