Fu Dou Guest House

This capsule hotel was the worst place I've stayed in. The photos support what I'm saying. The standard room was about 2 square meters, so tiny I couldn't lie down properly on the bed at 1.85 m tall. The photo pretty much shows the whole room. The bathroom had no door, which meant no privacy for a couple, and toilet smells and humidity came straight into the room. The toilet was so cramped I couldn't sit on it because my legs didn't fit. There were cockroaches, including one above the toilet in the bathroom photo. Water also started dripping from the ceiling overnight. I could clearly hear the neighbors' TV and air conditioning. Speaking of the air conditioner, it seemed to be from the 1980s or colonial era and was as loud as a motorbike, making it impossible to sleep with it on. This room isn't suitable for two people, or honestly even for one. I felt miserable and scammed every second I was there. Avoid it.

I was moved here after booking at Hango Ho hostel, apparently under the same owner. I was doubtful at first, but it turned out well. The room was small, which is what you'd expect in Hong Kong at a hostel, and the service was friendly. I met the owner and he was friendly too. The only real issue was that the toilet sometimes lacked enough pressure, so I had to flush more than once. It wasn't a dealbreaker. There's working air conditioning, cameras in the public areas, and free high-speed internet. The place is beside Temple Street night market and close to other attractions and restaurants. For a budget traveler, it's a convenient base near transport and shopping. Paying much more for a hotel would leave less money for leisure, and I didn't feel I gave up much here. The window view isn't much, just the building opposite, and outside noise can be loud, so bring earplugs.
