Pearl Guest House - 10th Floor

The room and bathroom were small, but the place was super clean. They made the bed, cleaned the room, and changed the towels every day. We had a fridge in the room, and free water and an oven for common use on the floor. The TV worked, though it only had local channels, and the shower had hot water with good pressure. The Indian receptionist was very helpful. I'd stay here again in Hong Kong and recommend it, even with the small bathroom and room. We booked a twin room for two, thinking it would give us more sleeping space, but I suggest booking the double with a window. We had reserved Pearl Premium Guesthouse, but the company has several guesthouses under the same management and put us in Manila Guesthouse, so this review is about Manila Guesthouse. We chose it for three nights because of the prime location in mirador mansion and the price. Getting to the building was easy, but finding reception and the rooms wasn't: the locations keep changing, and we got no message in advance explaining where to go. The elevators have confusing odd and even floor arrangements, and the waits meant it took us about 35-40 minutes to reach our room. Leave a message the day before you arrive and ask for exact directions, though they usually don't respond to questions.

The building caused the main hassle. It has only two elevators, for odd and even floors, and they serve passengers and as service lifts. They fill quickly, so the wait can be long; sometimes the line takes two or three round trips before you get on. Check-in is on the 16th floor, while your room may be on another floor depending on the reservation. This isn't for anyone expecting luxurious amenities. We had a comfortable 4D3N stay at Pearl Premium Guest House, and I'd recommend it to budget travellers. The room was smaller than a regular hotel room, but better than I expected, with enough room for me and my mom to move around. It's good value and in a great spot near the MTR and bus stops, within walking distance of TST tourist spots, shops, and restaurants. Our room had a private toilet, a window looking out over the streets of Tsim Sha Tsui, a refrigerator, and a TV with local channels. The comforter felt great. It was well kept with daily cleaning, fresh towels, and rubbish taken out each day. Toiletries were provided, and the shower had a heater. There's a water dispenser, microwave, and electric kettle outside the rooms. The Filipina attendant/receptionist was welcoming. So far, so good.

It's on floor 16 of Mirador Mansion Apartment, and the room was neat and tidy but small. The toilet was especially cramped, too small to sit comfortably. It was hard to find, with no directions posted. There wasn't a water kettle, and a plug extension for charging phones would help.

We kept having to go between the 7th floor and the owner's place on the 16th just to follow up on requests, since the phone in our room didn't work. It was a real hassle. The hairdryer was broken, the restroom door was damaged, and the housekeeper took our towel without giving us a fresh one.
