Starphire Hotel

The view from the 18th floor was amazing, and the staff were polite. You can get water there, and the coffee was delicious. It's about a 10-minute walk to the metro. There's also a free nearby museum, the Mei Ho Museum, about social housing. Good hotel for the price.

The room's the main drawback: it's very small, with no clothes cabinet, and two people can't really unpack their suitcases. The modern style is a bit stylish, but I think the room is tiny even by Hong Kong standards. If you're traveling light, it's sufficient and the price and location aren't bad. With large luggage, there won't be much space. I'd say it's good for a cheap 2-3 night stay. It's in a quiet area, around 5-10 minutes on foot from the red line MTR, which goes straight to many Hong Kong attractions. Busy shopping areas around Mong Kok near Nathan Rd are about a 10-15 minute walk. People speak English and are friendly. Breakfast is very small, just self-serve coffee and one pastry per guest. They clean the room and make the bed on request. The room was very clean, with no bugs or rodents. The AC worked well, and the water pressure was strong with warm water. WiFi was so-so and mostly worked, but was slow for things like YouTube.

We did eventually get both of our rooms, but the whole stay at Starphire Hotel was exhausting and stressful, and it really affected the mood of our trip. We booked 2 rooms for 5 people. The staff member first tried to offer us only 1 room, which wasn't fair, and we didn't accept that. He eventually gave us one of the rooms assigned to us, but we still had to wait longer for the other room, which should already have been clean. Almost all the other families who arrived with us had gone to their rooms while we were still waiting, even though we were traveling with a senior citizen who was unwell and in pain. We'd been told the rooms would be ready by 2pm, but past 2:10pm wala pa rin. I went to the front desk for an update, and the staff member got irritated, raised his voice, and said they were tired too. He was passive aggressive, laughing and acting rudely, which made things worse and upset even my mom. He also suddenly brought up our previous president, which was unnecessary and unprofessional. I kept saying “thank you” to calm things down and get him to stop talking. I'm from Philippines and had just traveled to HongKong. Yes, we got both rooms in the end, but this is not how guests should be treated. Very disappointing service. I wouldn't recommend it.

The AC and heat were broken, and the room was extremely cold, even colder than outside. In this weather, especially in winter, it was unbearable. They refused to move us, saying they were fully booked, though online rooms were still showing as available. They only offered an extra blanket. I woke up from the cold and had to put on all my clothes.
