Ukkei Inn

Ukkei inn is on the 10th floor of Lai Shing Building, with the entrance close to The One bakery. It’s under 20 m from MTR Yau ma tei exit C and a bus stop, and there’s plenty of food nearby. We had a clean room with two single beds and no window. There wasn’t much room to walk around, but two spaces under the beds held our luggage, perhaps bags around 18-26 inches. The beds were okay, with a good blanket. Amenities included two pairs of slippers, two towels, two toothbrush sets, four cups (two for drinking and two in the toilet), a TV, air conditioning, and two universal adapters. There was noise from outside the room and from upstairs, and the soundproofing isn’t great. If you’re a light sleeper, I wouldn’t recommend it. They clean daily and change the towels each day. For check-in, ring the bell or chat or call, since staff aren’t always there. Good value for the service.

Kevin was there when we checked in, gave us an upgrade, and let us arrive early since the room was ready. The location was superb, just steps from public transport and lots of places to eat. What stood out most was how clean the room and property were, even under the bed and in the corners. The bedding was comfy, and we really enjoyed our stay. Great value for a budget-friendly place.

For Hong Kong, and with so many restaurants, shops, and things to do nearby, the price felt fair. I’m a picky traveler, but I can’t complain too much when I’m not paying $200CAD a night. The building and shared areas outside the room are old, and the washroom is iffy. The pictures don’t match, so set your expectations accordingly. Still, it’s comfortable and there’s a surprisingly regular room cleaning service every day. No fuss.

The location made our stay special. Yau Ma Tei Station, Temple Street Markets, Ladies Market, and plenty of eateries are just minutes away. Langham Place Mall is about a 10-15 minute walk. There are convenience stores downstairs, plus laundry with wash, dry, and fold, fast food, coffee shops, and shopping close by, right in the middle of the shopping area. There’s an after-hours security gate and a security employee. The room matched the pictures, and the interior was well maintained, neat, and clean. We felt comfortable and at ease. Every room was very clean, and the wifi was a welcome feature. It gave me a special memory in HK.
