We booked eight nights, and it turned into the worst hotel experience I’ve had. We arrived at 2am ready to pay for early check-in, but our booked room wasn’t available. The alternative they offered wasn’t suitable for the three of us to even nap in, so we refused it. The night receptionist said our room would be ready between 9 and 10am. When we returned at 9, the next shift said noon. There were already two other families at reception who had booked the same room type and were in the same situation. The tour operator’s guide showed us other rooms in terrible shape, with dirt, dust, cracks, mold on the walls and even beds, and a horrible smell. We were told various things about our room, that it was under construction or that some Chinese people hadn’t moved out yet. None of that was our problem. Then, close to noon, they said the room we’d booked wouldn’t be ready until the next day. We asked to be moved to another hotel of equal level, but they tried to send us somewhere costing half what we’d paid. When we asked them to call their head office, they ignored us and wouldn’t make the call. Stay away from this hotel and Edem Travel Hainan. The hotel is trash, nowhere near three stars, and the guides who are meant to help seemed interested in making money from you instead. After we finally signed a paper saying we were leaving the hotel on our own, the guide said he’d find out how we could get our hotel refund. The next day, when we asked about our money, he said there was no money, claimed he knew nothing about it, and called me a Fool on the phone.
