Amara Shanghai

I really enjoyed my stay at Amara. The service crew were all so friendly and helpful, something I haven’t found at other hotels. When housekeeping noticed me moving lots of luggage out of my room, the attendant offered to get a porter to take it to the lobby. Zero Zhang and his colleagues were great with our bags, and they opened the car door whenever we arrived or got into our didi. They even kept replacing my bedroom slippers with fresh ones, which rarely happens at hotels I’ve stayed in.

Amara Shanghai’s common facilities are well maintained, and the location is excellent, right by a metro station and connected to a business complex with a spa and other shops. Some areas do look dusty and show the hotel’s age. The rooms were comfortable enough, and after we noticed cigarette smoke in the first one, Carmellia quickly arranged a change and helped with our luggage. We asked to move because my son has asthma and we avoid triggers like smoking and too much dust. Carmellia welcomed us at check-in. We had tasty room service, enjoyed the breakfast choices at BLU, and the seafood at our holiday dinner was great. Kevin Chen, the hotel’s F&B Manager, was especially accommodating. He engaged with guests and chatted with our kids, and he arranged the holiday dinner smoothly. He and his staff looked after us warmly each time we ate at BLU. The guest service is what makes this hotel shine among Shanghai’s many options. We’d love to return.

Clean room, affordable for a five-star stay, and really good customer service. A fantastic place to stay when visiting Shanghai. I’ll definitely come back.

Luxurious and high-end, and I have no complaints about the hotel. The low ratings are from people with unrealistic expectations or who can’t manage basic things.
