Dorsett Shanghai Hotel

The neighbourhood is fairly quiet, right beside a big park, and I’d happily come back. The subway exit takes you straight to reception, with a convenience store next door. They have drinking water at reception and a free washer and dryer, which came in very handy. Breakfast was decent, and the hotel felt like good value.

On our checkout day, 19Feb.2026, my mum realized a couple of hours later that she’d left cash under the pillow. She got it all back thanks to the room cleaner and checkout staff. It’s a pity she didn’t get their names, but I’d like to thank them. The hotel is above the Metro, the internet is fast, my room’s balcony door opened, and self-service laundry is free. I wish I’d been offered a higher-floor room with a Century Park view for my 5 day stay.

The metro access and location are the main reasons I’d give this a 3 instead of a 2. The property is dated, check-in and checkout were very slow, and the desk only has space for a couple of people at once. Breakfast was average at best. In mid-October the AC was off for the season, and opening the patio door, which had been screwed shut, required signing a waiver. There’s no lounge and hardly any shared seating, just 3 tables for two. I’ve travelled China extensively, and this was one of my worst hotel stays.

The staff were great, and I had a very nice stay with excellent service and amazing views. It was close to the Expo center, which made commuting easier. Breakfast was just okay, with limited choices, but otherwise it’s a great place to stay. Recommended if you’re in town.
