Jianguo Hotel Shanghai

The location is nice, the staff are kind, and room service is efficient. I also really appreciate that the toilet has ventilation, since many hotels in European countries don’t. There are quite a few drawbacks, though. The shower water pressure is weak, the Wi-Fi is unstable, and the sound insulation is poor. You can clearly hear people in the next room if they speak a bit loudly. As an Asian, I didn’t find the breakfast tasty, even though there were many options.

This hotel feels outdated, but the room was nice and clean. It’s affordable, too. Metro exit 9 is right nearby, about a five-minute walk, with shopping malls, lots of food outlets, and a large connected subway system all around. Guests smoke in their rooms despite the no-smoking signs. There was also a sewage smell in the toilet, maybe because the sewage system hasn’t been maintained.

The staff were welcoming, and the rooms were clean. Shopping malls are close by. It’s a bit far from the airport, but the metro or a taxi will get you there easily. A taxi from the airport to the hotel costs between $30-$40.

The location was great, but I found bed bugs during my four-night stay in October. Don’t leave socks on the carpet.
