Ocean Hotel Shanghai

The room was clean, and I had a good stay. It was roomy, with two complimentary bottles of water and basic toiletries, including shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Toothpaste and a toothbrush are available at reception if you need them. Breakfast was decent and included local food. There are two malls nearby, including Raffles City The Bund. The one drawback was that I couldn't watch shows on the TV. At least it played music, so the room wasn't completely quiet and empty. The small shower head didn't work, but luckily there was a larger one overhead.

Getting to the Bund takes about 30 minutes, and from there you can see the extraordinary night light show. The hotel's location is quite good. The lobby is spacious, with more private spots for dining and sofa areas to relax in. It's a modern, fairly clean hotel, and breakfast offers plenty of sweet, savory and international choices. The international dinner was good too. The rooms are clean, but not very large. There's a desk and minibar, though only enough space for one suitcase, and the bed isn't especially spacious. The TV has almost entirely Chinese channels, as is the case in nearly all hotels in China. The hotel Wi-Fi was almost unusable without a VPN, but that's common in Chinese hotels. Room lighting was sufficient. The bathroom has a bathtub and a window facing the bedroom, with a hand-operated roller shutter for privacy. The view was almost nonexistent because the window is small and set deep into the wall. My ratings: rooms 6.5, bathroom 7, cleanliness 7, location 6.5, overall 6.5.

The biggest issue was the really bad Wi-Fi, which meant I couldn't call my family. Otherwise, this 4 ⭐ hotel is definitely worth a visit: nice ambience, great food and service, and a lower price than other nearby 4 ⭐ hotels. Good value for the money.

The Ocean Hotel /Shanghai is really nice. It has a swimming pool, fitness center, sauna, golf and spa. It's in central Hongkou, west of the Huangpu River.
