The gym shut too early for me. I wanted to work out at 7 pm, but couldn't get in, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. The rest of the stay was fantastic, from the service and room to the location. The subway is at most 50 meters away, and it gets you to the bund, Nanjing Road, and Yu Garden within 10 minutes. The room was small, but that's understandable in Shanghai, where real estate is among the world's most expensive. It was laid out really well, with a bathtub, separate shower stall, and even blinds and a TV in the bathroom.

I came back to the room with several shopping bags after shopping in Shanghai, and one of them disappeared during our stay. It held a black bodysuit worth about $50. Since it was small and light, I think housekeeping may have thrown it away by mistake, rather than anyone taking it on purpose. Still, it could have been something more valuable, like jewelry. The hotel's response bothered me most. I gave them the receipt, and they confirmed I'd returned to the room with the bag, but they rejected my claim and suggested I'd misplaced the item or simply hadn't found it. One male receptionist smiled while I explained what had happened, which felt dismissive and inappropriate. The female receptionists, in contrast, were always kind, professional, helpful, and respectful. I work in hospitality at a Michelin-starred restaurant, so after paying a significant amount for a 14-night stay, I expected more professionalism and accountability from a high-end hotel. This was never about the $50. I've never felt so unsafe or unsupported at a hotel.

The worn, very dirty carpets and furniture make it clear that the hotel is getting old, and the cleaning staff don't always respect the “do not disturb” sign. It's acceptable for a short, budget-friendly stay. The location and room outlook make the price reasonable, especially if you're visiting Shanghai's financial district, but otherwise I wouldn't expect a four-star standard.

We were on the 38th floor and had an incredible view for the price. The metro is right outside, with plenty of restaurants and convenience stores nearby. Reception could have spoken better English, but they did their best to help.

The lighting was so dim throughout the room that even the washing area was too dark to do makeup. The shower wasn't fully enclosed either, so there was basically no privacy. A really disappointing stay. I wouldn't recommend it, and you'd be staying at your own risk.
