Urbn Hotel Shanghai

Breakfast was included with our room and was really good. There’s a small buffet with pastries, fruit, and salad, plus dishes you can order from the menu. I had the congee and breakfast muffin, both terrific, and the coffee was good too. The hotel is in a charming district near the Metro and Jing'An Temple. The rooms are a decent size, with comfortable beds and stylish decor. One thing to keep in mind: the layout is a little odd, with the bed on a raised platform in the middle and the sitting area and bathroom a couple of steps down. That may not suit someone at risk of falling. We’d definitely stay again.

We had a wonderful time in this beautiful hotel, and most of the staff were lovely. We arrived in Shanghai tired and early, so being allowed to check in ahead of time meant a lot. The concierge and receptionist were kind and spoke good English. Breakfast was the part that really spoiled the stay. We waited 30-45 minutes after ordering, and one restaurant staff member ignored us, although another who spoke good English was lovely. The fresh juice had run out by 9:30, and most of the buffet food was gone when we came in then. Nothing was replenished, which left a poor impression. I’d stay again, but management should address the slow kitchen service and lack of response. Because of the restaurant, I wouldn’t call this a four-star hotel, let alone a five-star one.

The smell of solvent was horrific, and workers were wearing face masks while they refinished the kitchen and dining room and tore up the whole first floor. There was no food service, though they offered to make me a cheese sandwich. We were supposed to have a wine and appetizer hour. Then they insulted me by saying this annual work was normal and that I was unreasonable to complain. If they’d told me all this work would be happening during my stay, I wouldn’t have rented two rooms, including the “penthouse”, or held a business meeting there. People stay at a hotel to enjoy themselves, not smell solvent. DO NOT STAY HERE if you don’t want to experience this disregard for guests.

Lovely place in the heart of JingAn district, with great service and an excellent location. It’s easy to get to most things, and good value for the money.
