I've made five trips from Australia to China in the past 12 months, and I've stayed at the Rivan every time. Everyone is friendly, from the door guards who smile and salute to the room maids, and they all make an effort to communicate. Mona and Kevin at Reception are always lovely and helpful. The rooms are just right, with a comfy bed, a/c, and a great shower. I eat breakfast in the restaurant every morning. The staff there are friendly and helpful too, and the chef knows I always want my two eggs runny. I'd highly recommend the Rivan to other Westerners travelling to China. These people are very helpful.

It's been about four years since I last visited, as COVID-19 kept me away for a while, and it seems like not much has changed. For a 4-star hotel, it's clean, the staff are friendly, and it seems well looked after, though the signs of age are hard to avoid. One mattress in the twin room had sagged. I added a topper, but it still felt too hard for my liking. I prefer a softer bed. I hope breakfast tomorrow is as satisfying as it was four years ago. A good choice for a business trip.
