Atour Hotel (Suzhou Lingering Garden Shantang St)

I just checked in. The room's nice and large, and the toilet is very clean. The staff have been friendly and helpful too. Really like it here.

Shi Lu Station is only a few minutes on foot, so it's easy to get around to the city's sights and different areas. There's plenty going on nearby too, with restaurants, shops, and places to take an evening walk. The room was spacious, clean, and nicely furnished. The hotel itself feels fairly new, modern, and well cared for. Lighting was fine for the most part, though rather dim in the bathroom when two people were using it. Service was good throughout. The room service team were attentive and friendly, and reception were always helpful. The bathroom looked modern, had strong water pressure, and drained properly without any backup or flooding. Wi-Fi was reliable, but many Western sites were blocked, as is common in China. An international eSIM or mobile data makes it easier to use things like Google and YouTube. It's a comfortable, central place to stay while exploring Suzhou, and I'd come back. The dim bathroom and the usual internet restrictions were the only real drawbacks for me.

We planned to stay for around three days with our two kids, aged 3 and 0, but enjoyed it enough to extend the visit to eight days. I was on a long business trip with a baby, so I needed laundry, hard floors rather than carpet, somewhere to wash and keep baby bottles, and enough room that staying indoors wouldn't feel cramped. This hotel covered all of that. It's right by Shantang Street, with Rainbow Shopping Mall, convenience stores, and lots of restaurants close by, and the price was very reasonable. They brought a crib over when a staff member saw we had a baby at check-in, which let us sleep without worrying about the baby falling. They also had a step stool for our older child, handy for reaching the sink and switches. I'd wished for something like that at other hotels, so it was a thoughtful touch. There are high chairs in the dining room and disposable bibs too, which helped keep the kids' clothes clean. A really good choice for a trip with children. The staff tried hard to make our stay comfortable whenever we asked for something. We prefer clean floors and walk barefoot, and although the floor looked clean, it still felt dirty to us. When we asked them to clean it, they brought out a Magic Eraser and scrubbed it. That meant we could put the baby down and let them crawl around. Highly recommended.
