A very nice place to stay. The bed and sheets were comfortable, and I’d definitely come back.

Clean and nice.

There’s a medium-sized supermarket nearby with restaurants around it, and the hotel has a fitness center and swimming pool. The food here falls short of what I’d expect from a four-star hotel, so I wouldn’t set high expectations. The building is old, though its condition is generally good. Some rooms look toward the neighboring apartment building, which makes opening the curtains feel uncomfortable because of the lack of privacy.

As Vanke’s first five-star hotel project, this was developed by a company that says it values architectural culture. Vanke chose Junlan to manage the hotel, with J2 Houhua International Design Group collaborating on what’s described as a historic cultural property and signature creative space for Vanke. Coming into downtown Wuhan from the airport by highway, Vanke’s jujube-colored Vanke City stands out from a distance. Its business apartments rise to nearly 50 stories, alongside the 35-story Junlan Grand Hotel. Both have an Art Deco look, with beige marble exteriors, steel, and frosted glass intended to give them an elegant, grand, fashionable feel. The hotel’s design centers on flowers, Jingchu civilization, and the meeting of old motifs with modern materials. The stated aim is a joyful, story-filled space with artistic character, jointly shaped by J2, Junlan, and Vanke. In the renovated ground-floor lobby, the layout emphasizes traditional correspondences and vertical flow. Wide corridors, a ceiling lined with abstract text, and a partitioned patio inspired by feng shui establish a Chinese aesthetic. To the right, a white marble counter patterned like mountains and gray wood-grain marble create a quiet, garden-like mood. A GRG plum blossom wall behind the front desk refers to the local flower and echoes a fence-shaped ceiling light. Cherry blossoms appear in the buffet restaurant, with more modern patterns and textures; the bar uses magnolias alongside traditional screens and totems. In the patio, a sculpture called “Wind” by renowned sculptor Tang Chongwu pairs a modern shape with a traditional texture. The dining spaces continue the floral theme in different ways. The second-floor Chinese restaurant reverses expectations by drawing on abstract forms and textures from Chu culture rather than traditional Chinese motifs, with abstract cherry blossoms as well. That approach is especially clear in the VIP rooms, where minimal decor is meant to keep attention on Hubei cuisine. In the Japanese restaurant, a root-like ceiling and azure cherry blossom wallcovering give the space an installation-like, refined look. The lounge combines floral details with wine-tasting facilities, presenting what the design describes as a renewed harmony between East and West. Screens take the lead over flowers in the third-floor conference center. Chu-Han-style screens and colors, tall doors, and patterns associated with a grand residence are meant to create a solemn yet celebratory atmosphere for conference guests, with flowers still included as accents. On the fourth floor, the wellness center has a limited function, so its design and decor are simple and rely more on furnishings for expression. Its colors are bright and vivid. In the guest rooms, comfort and furnishings are emphasized through the lotus theme. A large abstract lotus wall painting gives a modern feel, while lotus-themed amenities distinguish the room types. The design presents the varied lotus forms as a way for guests to appreciate the flower and deepen their understanding during a business trip. The presidential suite is singled out as a must-see, bringing back the lobby’s plum blossom theme to convey the hotel’s importance and prestige. On the top floor, an executive bar and club use plane trees and flowers to frame panoramic views of the Yangtze and Han Rivers. The adjacent commercial apartments have their own lavender theme, described as more romantic, abstract, and artistic. The project is presented as a landmark for Vanke and as an expression of J2 Design’s stated ideas: creating joy, celebrating art, and telling stories through shared spaces, stylish themes, and artistic details. The designers say the client and hotel management company gave strong understanding and support from early planning through near completion. They express confidence that the hotel, due to open in a few months, will represent the character, culture, creativity, themes, and sophistication envisioned by Vanke, Narada, and J2. The text concludes that Vanke’s, Wuhan’s, and J2’s cultural real estate has arrived.
