There are plenty of shops nearby, so finding food is easy. A short walk takes you to the busier main street, with even more stores and people heading toward the Bell Tower. I picked this budget tourist hotel for its location, within walking distance of several major gates along the Xian wall. The nearby streets are a little dim, but they still feel safe. Just keep your expectations in check.

The food took ages, and three of the dishes I ordered apparently never made it through. One item arrived raw. The staff were friendly when I sat down, though a bit scouty, and from the moment I entered, the attached restaurant seemed to be pushing me away. If you want food fit for a dog, come here. Otherwise, don't expect much.
The room was okay, and the hotel restaurant, Forest Flavor, serves a breakfast buffet with an acceptable taste and range of options. There are also several places to eat and shopping complexes nearby, about 1-20 minutes away on foot. This is a four-star hotel in Xi'an, China.
The reception was decent, and I'm giving the hotel one star for that. The staff didn't speak English, though, so luckily we had a guide. There were eight of us staying on different floors, and we all found the same thing: the rooms were dirty throughout the hotel. The carpet was so dirty that walking on it barefoot was out of the question. We know not to expect European hygiene standards, but this was the only hotel on our whole trip to China that was this dirty. I wouldn't recommend staying here.
The bedding was clean, and the breakfast was quite decent with plenty of variety, though it wasn't up to European or American four-star standards. I chose this hotel while passing through Xian because of the location. The floors could use a proper cleaning, and some of the finishing touches need attention. The neighborhood has lots of shops, including an open-air sidewalk restaurant and street vendors at the end of the street.
