This was one of the best places I stayed during my Yunnan trip. It's a boutique homestay, so don't expect the showiness of a five-star hotel, though it still makes an impression. Our room was spacious, had all the amenities, and looked straight over the padi terraces with nothing blocking the view. Being right in a village gave us a chance to see local daily life. My kids were fascinated by the water buffalo's morning walk. The restaurant served good, decent food, and the atmosphere was fantastic with the padi terraces in view. If you're in Yuanyang, this is a place to stay.

The location is amazing, but the experience was completely disappointing. I brought my dog into the restaurant and nobody told me dogs weren't allowed. Five minutes later, several "important" guests showed up, and I was told to leave because suddenly my dog wasn't welcome. What a snob!

I still remember the comfortable heated floor and the food made with local produce from the surrounding village. Some dishes need to be ordered hours ahead. They're cooked to order, and I think the ingredients have to be brought in fresh from the village. This small hotel sits in a peaceful village with views across the paddy fields, and you can still hear roosters crowing in the morning. The room brought modern and traditional design together nicely. Its big window had seats facing the fields, especially lovely when the morning was misty. One of my most memorable hotel stays.
