Hostal Mamy Dorme

The location is the best part: a lovely neighbourhood with lots of bars and restaurants, and the price is low. But the room was really cramped, the smallest we've had in all of Colombia. There weren't any sheets on the beds, which was strange, and the bed was so uncomfortable that even though we're easy sleepers, we couldn't sleep. The bathrooms aren't well kept. You get what you pay for.

The rooms were nice enough, and the air conditioning worked really well. Still, in seven years of staying in hostels, I've never had a host make us feel so unwelcome. One lady spoke a little English and was lovely, but the other woman was rude. We planned three nights and stayed only one because it felt like our presence was a constant inconvenience, as if we were overstaying in someone's home. At 9am she came into our room to wake us and say we had to pay, even though checkout was at 12. The outside gate is locked all the time too, so you have to find someone to let you in and out.

We booked two nights but left after one. The room was stuffy and small, and the bathrooms were nasty and smelled like pee. It was cheap, but I wouldn't recommend it.

The neighborhood is okay for what the city is like, but I had the misfortune of staying here and would say to stay away. As others have said, it's a basic hotel, not a hostel, and the owners are exceptionally rude. Save your time and money and find somewhere civilized and pleasant to relax at the end of the day. You'll enjoy Barranquilla much more.
