Tropical Beach

The beds are comfortable, the rooms have fans, and the food is tasty, even though it doesn’t come directly from the island. The hotel is good, but the facilities need more attention to keep them from deteriorating. The local man provided excellent service and quickly arranged all the connections we needed to explore Barú.

The place was run-down and we didn’t have a pleasant stay. The flies were huge and so numerous we couldn’t enjoy our food or relax. Meals came from other establishments and took a long time. We had one fan for five people, and electricity only worked at night. My phone charger sparked when I plugged it in. People staying alone get the last beds, and a beachfront spot costs an extra 50 COP. The room we had was the most expensive, VIP, but it didn’t look like the photos. It was the only room with a private bathroom, but there was no running water. We had to bathe with a small bucket from a filled water tank, and were told that was all the water available for the six guests. There was no toilet paper, wastebasket, soap, or bathroom door, and no door to the balcony either, so security felt questionable. The property’s security was terrible, too. The stairs were unstable, and one step was damaged when we arrived, though it was later repaired. They were dark at night. I doubled over during the night, and when I told the manager, "El Guajiro," the next day, he said it was impossible for the stairs to be dark. Check other places before booking. The photos DO NOT belong to the property, and there is no pool.

The person in charge was friendly and attentive for a while, but when we left at 6:30 AM, we assume they didn't notice us going. The room wasn't ready when we arrived, the bathroom was clogged and unusable, and nobody warned us about the power outage. The place needs more upkeep: the facilities looked worn, and the chairs seemed broken. We booked after seeing an “influencer” video on Instagram, but the stay was disappointing.

The only bright spot was the ocean view from the VIP room where my family and I stayed. Otherwise, there was no electricity, so it was very hot, and the place wasn't lit at night. There was no water, the photos didn't reflect what we found, and the girl who helped us was rude. We also paid extra for breakfast and never got it. If you can, find somewhere better.
