Hotel Casa Sabelle

We were able to check in early for an extra charge, which was a relief after travelling all night. But we didn't get the room we booked. They said it was because of the early check-in, though we chose this hotel specifically because the photos showed a window, and our room had none. The hotel is a long way from the center, too. We did appreciate that changing our booking to one night less was easy and we got a refund without trouble. Noise was the bigger problem. You can hear the hallways, other rooms, even reception, and after checking in early we were woken up several times. Strange music started playing at reception all morning, apparently from 8:00am. When my boyfriend asked if they could turn it down or off, he was told reception couldn't decide that. Back upstairs, we could hear the receptionist discussing his request with a cleaning lady in a very rude way.

The rooms and beds were clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly, though the facilities feel dated. The area seems a little sketchy. The location is far enough from roads and parties that those aren't a problem, but sound travels right through the building, at least on the ground floor. You can hear other rooms, and the night guard listening loudly to his phone. I'd bring earplugs, even for a private room.

After travelling for 18 hours, we arrived exhausted and found that our room had been sold, even though we'd booked two nights because we arrived at 4am and had specifically asked them to hold it until our arrival the next day at 4am. They had agreed, but when we showed them our Booking.com conversation, they said it wasn't possible. They sent us to another hotel far from the center, and we had to pay for our own taxi. Horrible service.

This part of town feels dangerous. Two blocks away, watch out for thieves. People who aren't clearly headed somewhere may be sizing you up. Don't make eye contact, say no, and keep moving.
