Hotel Dorado 100

Ernesto, the lead manager, is affiliated with the U.S. Embassy and is deeply committed to helping United States citizens. The staff are amazing. I’d highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Bogota.

The staff’s rude, disrespectful service was the worst part of my stay. The shower was another major problem: barely any water came out, and it swung from very hot to very cold. The bed was hard, the closets were dirty, and the thin towels had holes. When I asked for more, they seemed annoyed, saying I already had one, then brought me a hand towel. I’ve never had a worse hotel experience. Please spend an extra $5 and stay somewhere else.

The receptionist was friendly and helpful, and the hot water worked. The breakfast smelled very good, though I couldn’t try it because we were running late. Still, we woke at midnight to find there was no heat, and there was only one towel in the morning. The wall had sections scraped away because of mold, which I recognized from my work as a licensed contractor with restoration companies. The photos don’t show what the hotel is really like. We’d arrived late to a neighborhood and building that looked sketchy, and the card machine didn’t work, so they let us stay on the promise we’d pay cash the next day. We were too tired from traveling to leave. I gave it 2.75, while my girlfriend gave it 2.

The shower was nice, at least. But I asked for a quiet room, and if this was the quiet option, I feel for everyone else. We were on the fourth floor with paper-thin windows and nonstop traffic noise. In five months of travel, this was the only bed I’ve had with a plastic mattress. Pretty sad.
