Hyatt Place Bogota/Convention Center

I only needed a night before my flight, but I’m planning to return for a longer trip. The Cali football supporters gathered outside made for an entertaining, unexpected bit of local color. The hotel was much better than I’d expected for the price. My room was clean, modern, and comfortable, and it felt like very good value.

The room was spacious and clean, with comfortable beds and blackout shades that kept out the light. Breakfast had a tasty, balanced range of hot and cold choices. The location is fairly central between the airport, Usaquen, and Monserrate. There’s a washer and dryer on the 6th floor, and the gym has a very high ceiling. One downside, outside music comes through the windows, so bring earplugs.

Breakfast was good, but the suite was a poor deal at $200 USD a night. The pillows were hard and uncomfortable, there was no tea kettle, and the shower fixtures were badly placed and installed. The light switches were behind the furniture, which made no sense, and the elevator was slow.

For an upscale-ish hotel, the food was a 1/10. Colombian food can be so varied and delicious, which made the low quality and limited breakfast choices especially disappointing. I felt compelled to write because of how bad the food was. I ordered soup and the afternoon cook sauteed the vegetables, added salt, then poured boiled water over them. It wasn’t even mixed. Please train the afternoon cook. Warm plates would also help keep the food warm longer.
