Hotel Sol y Luna de Capurgana

The view at Hotel Sol y Luna is beautiful, but the rest of the stay was disappointing. There’s no permanent staff, and the service felt limited and mediocre. Food was basic and poor, while the facilities seemed neglected: some doors wouldn’t close, electrical outlets were damaged, and maintenance was lacking. WiFi didn’t reach all parts of the hotel, and the nearby beach was quite dirty during our visit. Getting there is also difficult. You have to cross a river, and when the water is high, motorcycle taxis can’t pass. We weren’t told that in advance. The place needs major improvements to justify the price, and I hope management gives it more attention.

Capurganá is paradise, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. I visited with friends last week, and the service was terrible. The person handling bookings never showed up and kept making employees take the blame. This is the accommodation farthest from the beach. To reach it, you have to wade along the shoreline over dangerous rocks or climb over barbed wire and a neighbor’s fence. There’s no WiFi, and getting to the hotel means paying for a cargo motorcycle because of the difficult terrain, with waterfalls and lots of swamp to cross. The owner knew my partner and I had only paid half, and didn’t charge us the rest because she knew the service had been poor. She doesn’t arrange tours.

We were a group of 17, and the package we bought from Mrs. Beatriz was very economical. She was attentive throughout, answering our questions and sorting out any issues. The rooms were well equipped, though one needed another fan. Some outlets also needed repair because the power kept cutting out and coming back. Mr. Giancarlo helped by getting the generator running. The place is a bit far from the main dock, but the 20-minute walk is normal. Mr. Giancarlo and Mrs. Rocío made the stay especially warm, checking that we were all right and sharing recommendations. He built us a spectacular bonfire, and she cooked a delicious meal. It felt as if they already knew us, even with 17 people. The boat, lunches, and places included in our package all went as planned. It was a very good choice. A huge thank you to our hosts, Mr. Giancarlo and Ms. Rocio, for making us feel at home.

Mrs. Luz Marina and don Gregorio were kind, warm, and charismatic, and their cooking was delicious. They always had a good attitude and made us feel at home. Mrs. Laura was attentive from the start while helping us prepare for the trip. I recommend the hotel.
