Alfiz Hotel Boutique

It was easy to get in and out, and there was always someone at reception, 24/7. The hotel feels authentic, like a rustic boutique place that really belongs in the city. Sheik, the manager, went above and beyond answering all my questions, and the staff were truly incredible. If you want a more unique Cartagena experience, I’d recommend staying here over a fancier hotel. Thanks to Alfiz for making my trip even better!

I liked the boutique feel of the building and rooms, and the manager was thoughtful enough to email a week before we arrived. He promptly arranged the two separate beds I asked for. Breakfast is available at any of the three nearby sister hotels; we tried them all and liked Casona Porvenir best. Still, I wouldn't come back. The bathroom and toilet have no proper divider from the room, just a short plastic curtain, and the toilet door stops below the ceiling. You can hear everything while someone brushes their teeth or uses the toilet, which was really unpleasant. There was no minibar, no kettle or supplies for making hot drinks, and no phone to call reception. Those seem like basics for a four-star hotel. The tiny dip pool was there, though the rooftop jacuzzi didn't look appealing. On our first morning we were unexpectedly offered a move to one of the sister hotels, then the offer was withdrawn 15 minutes later before we could look at it.

The bed was okay, and the location works if you don't mind drummers playing near the window. Beyond that, I wouldn't stay here again. Our street-facing room had only sheer curtains, so the streetlights kept it bright all night. There was a strong smell in the room that made it hard for my wife to breathe. Maybe it was perfumed cleaning products, but whatever caused it, it wasn't pleasant. Outside noise was heavy too, and the TV or its remotes weren't working. The Wi-Fi also went out last night.

The plunge pool was a lifesaver after walking around in the heat, and the rooms were soundproof. Ours had a huge shower. Breakfast was good, and the service was excellent, especially Karina. It's right in the heart of Cartagena, a great place to stay.
