Hotel Virrey Cartagena

We found this place at the last minute, and it was well worth staying. It’s beautiful and clean, with a great location in Bocagrande that’s easy to get around on foot.

The location is the main plus: it’s on a good strip with lots of people walking by, and the staff are gracious. Most of the staff were really nice, but the older woman cooking breakfast in the cafeteria was extremely rude. She got angry when I struggled with Spanish. The buffet-style stainless steel counter is immediately to your right as you enter. In my opinion, the way she treated me seemed racially motivated. I prefer halal food, and the offerings were basic and heavy on pork products. Don’t fall for the free breakfast promotion and pool scheme, as I did. The pool is tiny, more like a tub, maybe 12 feet long by 5 feet wide, enough for only two adults. My room by it smelled strongly of mildew and mold, and there was also a bad roach problem. You get what you pay for. If those things matter to you, don’t stay here. If you like being in the middle of things, you may enjoy it.

I came for surgery and needed somewhere to stay for at least 15 days, so I ended up staying 18. Being away from home and alone in those circumstances wasn’t easy, but Luis the manager and the whole team made all the difference. Victor, the housekeeping staff, and the restaurant team took care of me and pampered me from day one. They made me feel at home and loved. I wholeheartedly recommend the hotel for its service, location, and the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms and hotel. Thank you all from the heart 🤍🙏🏻✨
