This hostel has become filthy and run down. The dorm had no windows and the air conditioning was barely on, so it felt unbearably hot, around 85 degrees F, and was awful for sleeping or relaxing. When we asked for help, employees said they’d fix it but nothing changed. The place also lost power for five hours one day, even though local businesses still had electricity. The showers were disgusting, with hair all over the floor, and the drains didn’t work properly, so you had to stand in dirty water. I could keep going, but you get the idea. It’s blistering hot, filthy, and deeply uncomfortable. This used to be one of the nicer hostels in Cartagena, maybe even the nicest. Hard pass.

The old town location makes it easy to get everywhere, and it’s a safe, pleasant place with friendly staff and a good breakfast. The drawback is the bathroom shortage: three bathrooms for 20 people, so they’re occupied most of the time. There are a few more in other rooms, but those are shared by another 20 people, so...

The location is great, but that was about the only thing I liked. We spent three nights in a private room without windows. The shower leaked all over and there was nothing to mop up the floor. After heavy rain one night, water also came through the bathroom ceiling. I reported it to the front desk, and the guy said he’d clean it. When we asked for some compensation, he said they couldn’t control the weather. Sure, but they could repair the ceiling so it doesn’t leak, especially in a region where it rains like that all the time. They eventually moved us to another room, but never fixed the problem. Breakfast was okay, with fruit and scrambled eggs, a nice start to the day. You do have to wash your own dishes, but that wasn’t a big deal.

Urmann and Jorge helped us feel safe, and the kind women serving eggs in the morning were a joy. The waterfall brings joy too. A very good, friendly hostel.
