Zalmedina Hotel

The best part was how kind everyone at Zalmedina hotel was, right down to the housekeeper. I stayed there with my mother and we had a really excellent time. They cleaned our room every day, breakfast was excellent, and the location made it easy to get to the beach, restaurants, and shops. Thanks to the whole team.

Leonela at reception was friendly and helpful, and the other gentleman working with her was courteous too, even though I never caught his name. I had great views from both windows. The room was average in size, but the bathroom was tiny, and I didn't like the shower curtain. Breakfast was the same basic offering every day, though the dining area is nicely decorated and open to the town. The location puts just about everything nearby: beach, shops, restaurants, currency exchange (including one right next door), souvenir shops, tour agencies, and pharmacies. The hotel is on the second floor, where reception is. When I first arrived, it took a while for them to open the elevator so I could get up there. Down on the first floor are various shops, including souvenir, tour, and clothing stores. It's convenient, but people keep trying to sell you things, mostly tours, whenever you come or go. I never felt unsafe, though. I got stuck here because of Hurricane Beryl. I could have moved, but chose to stay, so it turned out not to be so bad after all.

The location was a real plus, with a mall across the street for coffee and beach access, restaurants and the marketplace within walking distance, and the walled City a short taxi ride away. It's a nice place, clean, with helpful staff and a decent breakfast buffet. The bathrooms are small, and by US standards I'd call it around a 3-star hotel, not a luxury property.

The bed was comfortable, the internet worked well enough for me to work, and the breakfast was okay, though the same food every day got boring and it could have more variety. The woman serving breakfast and the room cleaner were very kind. Still, I wouldn't stay here again. My main problem was the bathroom: small and smelly, with no hot water and an old shower and curtain. After 6 pm the main entrance is locked, so you have to knock for reception to let you in. Sometimes there's a wait because the person is busy or possibly in the toilet. I found it very strange to be left waiting outside, and the night shift person who opened the door looked at us very suspiciously. We're guests, not delinquents.
