Sierra Tayrona

The room was clean and nice, with a comfortable bed, mosquito net, and fan. There’s a private bathroom outside the room, plus a jacuzzi bath and sauna. Having a bubble bath under the stars while listening to the river was amazing. The location is quiet, close to the river for swimming, and a 15-minute walk from the Tayrona National Park entrance. Claudia and Alejo welcomed us with big smiles and gave us lots of useful tips about local attractions. They were always ready to help and make sure we had a good stay. There are three nice dogs and a cat, and we also saw monkeys, iguanas, and birds. We had a wonderful time at Sierra Tayrona Hostel. Highly recommended!

We stayed two nights so we could spend a full day at Tayrona National Park. Taking the public bus? I’d suggest getting off at “Plaza Tayrona” and walking about 10 minutes to the hostel. It’s a quiet little place by the river, where you can swim. There’s good Wi-Fi, a mosquito net, fan, hammock, and shared areas. The shower has cold water, towels aren’t included, and guests can’t use the kitchen. Food is available, with a tienda nearby and more options within walking distance along the main road. For our roughly 17 km (10.5 mile) hike in Tayrona NP, we left around 8 AM and took a short bus ride to the Calabazo entrance. The bus was about 3K, the community fee 5K, and the entrance fee depends on your nationality. We walked to Cabo beach, exited at the Cañaveral gate in the afternoon, took the 5K shuttle to Zaino, then walked back to the hostel. We spotted several kinds of monkeys along the way, including red howlers.

A beautiful, rustic spot with river access, in a great location between Tayrona and Sierra Nevada national parks.

We booked two weeks ahead, but when we arrived they’d overbooked and sent us to another hostel. They didn’t cover either the price difference for the other accommodation or our transport. He said he was sorry, but according to the booking reviews, this apparently happens regularly. The service was awful.
